Course Description: In this course, students will have the opportunity to study the countries and cultures of the world. Students will analyze how physical, social, cultural, economic, political, and technological elements impact life in today’s global society.
Text(s): Glencoe World History by Jackson J. Spielvogel. We will also be using various supplemental readings and materials. Students will be responsible for keeping up with their own book.

Grading: Everything you do in this class will be for a grade. Do not ask me if it is for a grade or not. Everything we will do has a purpose towards the class. If you would like to know your current grade you may ask me before or after class.
Grading Scale: For each assignment there will be a total amount of points possible. The grade will be the points awarded over points possible.
- Test and any other major assignments will be worth 50%
- Daily work, which includes quiz’s, free writes, participation and any other in class activities will be worth 40%
- Homework will be worth 10%
Student Records: Student records such as attendance and grades are maintained in a grade book and in a computer program. If the student wishes to challenge a grade, he/she must have the graded assignment with him/her.
Assignments: All assignments will be turned in/collected at the beginning of class. Anything after will be considered late.
Late Work Policy: No late homework will be accepted. Late major assignments will be penalized one letter grade every two days. After six days the assignment will no longer be accepted.
Make Up Work: Make up work must be completed within five school days of last excused absence. If you missed an in class assignment, you will need to see me to make an appointment to make it up.
Communication With Parents:
- A copy of the course syllabus.
- Interim reports
- Report cards at the end of each nine-week period.
- Phone calls or conferences as dictated by student needs.
- A teacher web page will be maintained and an e-mail communication project with parents implemented.
Classroom Rules:
- Be on time…I will mark tardies
- Be prepared and ready to go when bell rings
- Show respect
- Keep the classroom neat and clean
- Do not leave the classroom without permission
- No cell phones
- If I see a cell phone in class I will ask you to put it on a table in the classroom and you will not get it back until class is over
- The school discipline policy will be enforced. See the school handbook for more information
Adjustment: I hold the right to change the current syllabus. Every student will get a copy of what has been changed when it has been changed.
